It was a historic moment in Umuahia, Abia State, on Thursday October 7, 2021, as Mr Chris Isiguzo, emerged the National President of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), for a second tenure of three years.
The election, which attracted delegates across the whole country was rated as free, fair and the most credible in the history of the Union.
Our Correspondent observed that the election held at the 7th Triennial Delegates Conference was well organised, even as the entire voting process was hitch-free and highly transparent.
With the transparent manner in which the whole exercise was conducted, the re-election of Mr Isiguzo and other candidates will linger for long in the minds of delegates and observers who witnessed the election.
For instance, Comrade Samuel Dada, emerged unopposed as the new National Financial Secretary. At the end, the NUJ President was sworn in with his executive members which include; Alhassan Yahaya as Deputy President: Dele Atunbi as National Treasurer; Samuel Dada as National Financial Secretary; and Ladi Emmanuel as National Internal Auditor.
The President promised to build on the achievements of the last three years, stressing that his aim is to take the Union to greater heights for the benefits of all members.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, congratulated Comrade Isiguzo, on his re-election.
In a statement by the State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Governor Ikpeazu expressed appreciation to the delegates of NUJ for the confidence reposed on Chief Isiguzo, who is an illustrious son of the State.
He commended the Union for the orderly manner, in which the election was conducted, even as he pledged his administration’s continued partnership with the NUJ, especially the media in general
He urged Comrade Isiguzo to leverage on his wealth of experience to ensure that journalists in the country continue to raise the bar in their professional duties.
