- As Comptroller Swomen records N55.7million seizures

The Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, (KLT) Command, under the leadership of Comptroller Hammi Swomen, as Customs Area Controller (CAC), has generated over N7.9 billion revenue for the Federal Government.
Comptroller Swomen, disclosed this during press conference at the Command two days ago.
He explained that the
huge amount of over N7.9 billion, was realised as Customs duty and other charges from January to March 2021, adding that the N7.9billion surpassed N5.8 billion collected the same period in January to March, 2020.
According to him; “This figure represents 36.8 % increase in duty collected, when compared to the revenue generated in the first quarter of 2020.
“The Command generated N3.3billion in the month of March 2021, being
the first time in the history of KLT Command, that over N3.3billion is generated in one month.”
Responding to questions on anti-smuggling activities of the Command, Comptroller Swomen said that his Command made seizures of Five (5) containers worth over N55.7 million in Duty Paid Value (DPV).
He said: “The items seized include
2,655 pieces of used tyres, concealed with two vehicles; one used Toyota Carina E 2000 model & one Mazda 323 2004 model), all with DPV of N21.5million.
2,772 kegs of Vegetable oil with DPV of N28.6 million.
16,920 bottles of expired water – Augus-Towanka Table water, with DPV of N5.4 million”.
The CAC informed: “Schedule 3 item No 14, 4 and 11 of the Ecowas Common External Tariff (CET) 2017-2021 Import prohibition list (Trade) PROHOBITS importation of these products, that is why they are seized.
“NAFDAC has taken sample of the water for laboratory test and Investigation is still on-going.”
