Governor Uzodimma lauds ANLCA on historic AGM, BOT election
* Advises freight forwarders to work with Nigeria Customs

The Executive Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma has commended Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), on the successful conduct of its 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Board of Trustees (BOT) election.
The Governor gave this commendation while addressing ANLCA members during the BOT election held on December 16, 2020, in Concord hotel, Owerri, Imo State.
The Governor, who arrived the venue of the programme in company of his Deputy, expressed great pleasure on the orderly and well organized manner the AGM took place.
Speaking further, Governor Uzodimma emphasised on the important role freight forwarders play in maritime sector development and job creation in the country.
The Governor called on freight forwarders in the country to work in synergy with Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), to enhance economic growth and development.
According to him, Customs should see freight forwarders as partners, not opponents.
This, he said, becomes necessary, especially now that the Federal Government is working tirelessly to diversify the nation’s economy into non-oil export sectors.
He said freight forwarders should work with Customs to enhance trade facilitation and more revenue generation for government to run the economy.
He asserted, “ANLCA is one of the oldest Associations in the maritime industry founded in 1954, even before Nigeria gained Independence. This show that the Association has come along way and is adding value to the maritime sector of our economy.
For instance, “ANLCA creates more than 15,000 direct jobs and a large number of indirect employment through the value chain of freight forwarding business in the ports. ANLCA is an important group that government should not joke with.
“I am also commending your National President, Hon Tony Iju Nwabunike for his leadership style.
We will continue to maintain our relationship with ANLCA for the overall interest of our maritime industry and the economy at large”.
In his conclusion, Governor Uzodimma called for reduction of government agencies in the ports, in order to ensure ease of doing business in the maritime industry.
More so, the election conducted by e-voting system had over 1,462 members mionitoring it online, with a total of 678 votes, and the swearing in of new Board members took place accordingly.
