2020: Comptroller Musa sets agenda for Tincan Customs Command
.Close all revenue gaps, he urges officers

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Tincan Island Port Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller MBA Musa, has started activities of the Command in 2020 with agenda setting for officers on operational efficiency and professionalism.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO), of the Command, Uche Ejesieme made this known.
According to him, “The agenda setting meetings are part of the proactive measures put in place by the CAC to sustain remarkable achievements made by the Command last year, 2019.
The PRO went on, “For the Command to achieve greater productivity, the Area Controller started this year-2020 with agenda setting meetings and all cadres of officers at Tincan Island Port were part of these important programmes.
His words, “The meetings focused mainly on attitudinal change and professionalism in carrying out our core functions daily. The Controller wants officers to remain committed, to achieve new target that the Command will be given this year.
“This is because achieving it is a must, not an option. So, the CAC used these agenda setting meetings to prepare the minds of officers on how to identify all areas of revenue gaps and close them appropriately.
“So, the essence of agenda setting meetings is to avoid complacency, by making officers realise the need to remain proactive and committed at all times, without compromising the Federal Government executive order on ease of doing business in the port industry.
“In that capacity, the first meeting had in attendance all officers in charge of the terminals, examination, releasing officers, middle-cadre officers, whose schedules are imperative to the actualisation of our core mandates.
“The CAC reflected on the achievements of Tincan Port in 2019, as he highlighted that the Command realised over N346.5billion revenue collection last year, seizures with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of more than N5.9billion and exports worth over N130.2billion. Most remarkably, we exceeded our revenue target by N4billion last year”.
“The essence of this overview is to put officers on their toes, not to relax with the euphoria of achievements in 2019”.
“The CAC wants officers to ensure thorough examination of cargoes and timeliness of operations. He also wants teamwork between resident officers and other specialised Units in the Command to enhance operational synergy.
“The concept of Customs-7Cs should be applied in examination and other procedures in the Command. To the CAC, there must be zero tolerance to any form of infraction.”
Ejesieme revealed, “Comptroller Musa is also working at developing internal course curriculum to train officers on core aspects of Customs operations. During the meeting, he reminded officers of the fact that Customs will soon achieve full automation. As such, they must improve their skills in Information Communications Technology, ICT, in order to be relevant in the system”.
He enthused, “Tincan Command is blessed with competent officers, who will always be available to impact knowledge, to sharpen their skills for the challenges ahead. The challenges are enormous but surmountable.
