Ikpong Umoh, a Manufacturer in Nigeria gets double honours for outstanding performance

The immediate past Chairman, Toiletries and Cosmetics Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Mr Ikpong Umoh, has been honoured for outstanding performance during his tenure.
Umoh, who is a Manufacturer and one of the operators of Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs, in Nigeria within the Cosmetics sub-sector, is also the Chief Executive Officer, Stellarchem Nigeria Limited.
He was given two Awards at the same time, during the 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the group with a theme, ‘Impact of Border closure, multiple taxation and the place of cosmetics in Nigerian Market’, held in Lagos.
The first was ‘Appreciation Award’ bestowed on him by Toiletries and Cosmetics Group of M.A.N, while the second honour was ‘Excellent Leadership Award’ presented by Daily Business Update Team Nigeria.
His Rising Profile:
Mr Umoh was born on May 27, 1957 into a devout Christian family .He attended his primary school in Methodist School, Ituk Mbang and then proceeded to Methodist Boys’ High School, Oron, Akwa Ibom State, where he graduated in 1974.
In the quest to further his education, he attended Mary Knoll Secondary school, Ogoja for his Higher school certificate and then attended Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger state, before gaining admissions into the University of Ilorin, Ilorin-Kwara State, where he studied Industrial Chemistry.
He graduated in 1982, with Second Class Upper Division. He was deployed during the National Youth Service scheme to Benue State, where he served with the Federal University of Technology, Makurdi, as Assistant Lecturer.
On completion of the National service, he was employed in United African Company of Nigeria (UACN) as a Management Trainee and seconded to A.J Seward Division (now part of Unilever) in Oregun, Lagos State.
While in UACN, Mr Umoh had Managerial Trainings within and outside the country, gathering career experience and expertise that prepared him for bigger responsibilities within the organisation.
In 1989, he was made the Product Development/Quality Control Manager, with the responsibility of Pioneering development of a complete range of Ethnic Hair Care products for local and international markets.
During this period, he initiated and completed the development of a skin cream and lotion with about 75% local contents.
In 1991, he left the service of UACN to start a chemical consulting firm, which has grown to be a dependable chemical manufacturer and supplier.
Mr Umoh is experienced, goal-oriented and Successful entrepreneur and a Management Consultant with 25 years of proven Managerial and Leadership capabilities.
He is currently the Managing Director of Stellarchem Nigeria Limited, one of the three cosmetics chemicals intermediate manufacturers in Nigeria.
Positions:
He is also the immediate past Chairman, Toiletries and Cosmetics (T&C) Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, former Vice Chairman, Chemical & Pharmaceutical Sectoral Group of M.A.N and a Council Member of M.A.N, Ikeja Branch.
Also, Mr Umoh has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business strategy. He is a member of the International Management Association (IMA), London and a Fellow of the institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria.
Collaboration/Research Outcome:
He has collaborated with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council Nigeria, as a Consultant and Researcher on Oleochemicals. His research interest is in developing Cosmetic Ingredients from locally available renewable sources.
Some of his Research works resulted in the creation and launch of 100% Natural Skincare and Baby care Brand, called Seeds of Beauty, in 2017.
His Recent Inventions:
His recent inventions in the area of Emulsifying waxes have been awarded two Patent Rights with Patent & Intellectual Property office of The Federal Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industries.
Philanthropic Activities
Mr Umoh is very passionate about Philanthropic activities and currently oversees the activities of his father’s Education Charity Foundation called, ‘ETUBOM UMOH FOUNDATION’. The major objective of this Foundation is to seek out and render Financial assistance, as well as sponsorship to students who gain admissions into tertiary institutions but are unable to pay their fees.
He is happily married with four children.
