Customs at Seme destroys truck load of rotten ponmo

The scene where the rotten ponmo was destroyed:
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command has destroyed rotten ponmo fully loaded in a truck and smuggled into Nigeria.
The expired ponmo preserved with harmful chemical was intercepted by Seme Command through intelligence, at the border between Nigeria and Republic of Benin.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Comptroller Mohammed Uba destroyed the contaminated items before officials of NAFDAC, Port Health Services, as well as other agencies at the border area.
Comptroller Uba while addressing reporters said that destruction of the rotten ponmo was based on directives from the Comptroller-General of Customs- CGC Ali Hameed, as a form of community service to the people.
His words, “It is on this note that seizure of this nature is destroyed immediately knowing the health implications”.
Also speaking, the OC NAFDAC, Seme, Dr. Nura Audu, revealed, “The ponmo had been preserved with a chemical called Formaidehyde, used in preserving corpses and was dangerous to human health”.
That was not all. Comptroller Uba also handed over 1726x914kg of cannabis sativa recently seized by his Command to NDLEA at Seme area.
