Customs FOU Zone ‘A’ seizes bullet proof vehicles, 113 exotic cars

It was another moment of astonishment at the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’, Nigeria Customs Service ( NCS), as the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Unit, Comptroller Aliyu Mohammed, show-cased seizures of 113 exotic cars, as well as bullet proof vehicles imported into the country without End-User-Certificate from National Security Adviser.
He disclosed that the exotic cars with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1.33billion were intercepted between February 6 and April 16, 2019 through intelligence.
Some of the seized exotic cars:
Comptroller Aliyu who has recorded outstanding performance as the CAC of FOU Zone ‘A’, with World Customs Organisation (WCO) award of recognition for his hard work, also displayed seizures of 1,000 sachets of Tramadol-X 250mg, 600 cartons of codeine syrup and 12 parcels of Indian hemp.

The CAC also showed Journalists, seized Dangote cement truck used in smuggling about 800 bags of rice, intercepted along Shagamu road and another truck loaded with smuggled rice but concealed with bottles of soft drinks by illicit traders, in attempt to escape security checks but were still caught.
Other seizures include 398 cartons of Really Extra (Diclofenac), 1,056 cartons of Chest and Lung tablets and 49 cartons of Paracetamol injection, imported into the country illegally without registration number from NAFDAC.
More so, other seized items were13,810 bags of foreign rice, 157 bales of used clothes, 180 kegs of vegetable oil, 200 cartons of frozen poultry products, 24 pieces of compressors, 43 bags of used shoes, 280 pieces of machetes, 62 cartons of tomato paste and 265 pieces of used tyres, among numerous items, with total DPV of N610million.
The CAC emphasized that the policy of government banning importation of vehicles through land borders is still on.
He informed, “Importation of vehicles is allowed only through the seaports and not land borders. Therefore, individuals who want to import cars, can go through the seaports and pay appropriate duty to government”.
