Western Marine Customs intercepts N6.1million poultry products, foreign rice from creeks

The seized items:
The Western Marine Command (WMC) of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has seized smuggled poultry products estimated at a Duty Paid Value (DPV), of over N6.1million.
The Command also seized foreign rice smuggled into the country through the waterways.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of WMC, Comptroller Binga B. N disclosed this to news men, during the destruction of the seized poultry products at the Command yesterday.
According to him, the items displayed in more than 608 cartons were seized from the creeks at Badagry, Lagos.
In the same vein, bags of foreign rice were seized in locally constructed boats from the creeks by officers of the Command.
Comptroller Binga warned smugglers to desist from illicit trade and leave the waterways, or be ready to face arrest and prosecution, stressing that smugglers are economic saboteurs.
The seized poultry items were destruction openly in the presence of Journalists and other agencies of government.
He emphasized, “Our duty is to protect our economy by enforcing government’s fiscal policies aimed at enhancing growth of local industries”.
The CAC informed, “We will not rest until smugglers leave the waterways and allow sanity in our economic environment”.
More so, seizure of poultry products has become recurrent issue, showing efforts by officers of Western Marine Command in curbing the menace.
