DC Kirawa and his team during the press conference:
The Strike Force of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), under the supervision of DC Abdullahi Kirawa, as the National Coordinator, has recorded seizures of various prohibited items worth over N460million.
This is coming just few months after Kirawa and his men seized contraband worth billions of Naira within Zone ‘A’.
Addressing news men during press conference, at the Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘A’ of Dc Kirawa explained, “What you are seeing here is a 40ft truck loaded with 304 cartons of imitation jewelries, worth N36.48million but falsely declared by the importer, in attempt to deceive our officers and evade appropriate duty payment.
“False declaration attracts outright seizures because it contravenes Section 46 of CEMA on concealed, wrong entry and false declaration. Also, items that are falsely declared pose serious security risk to the nation. Therefore, the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Hameed Ali has equipped us adequately to do the work. Therefore, these items are seized to serve as deterrent to others.”
Kirawa middle and other officers at the press briefing:
“Here is another truck load of 1,698 expired tyres concealed with empty crates of beer, worth N8.49million. Look at the expired tyres for instance. These tyres can cause serious accidents and even death on our roads. All hands must be on deck to curb this kind of illegality in our country”.
Kirawa went on, “Other items include a truck loaded with 705 bags of foreign rice, worth N9.87million, with container number; GESU 56225417. A 40ft truck loaded with 77 bales of Jeans trousers, 16 bales of ladies belt, 12 bales of new T-Shirts and seven bales of new female hand bags worth N38.77million. These seizures amounted to over N460million”.
Among the seized items were Toyota Avalon, worth N2.5million and a truck load of second hand clothes among other items seized by the Strike Force team within Zone ‘A’.
