The Seme Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized over 4,745 bags of 50kg foreign rice smuggled into the country through the border.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Seme Command, Comptroller Mohammed Uba Garba made this known in a press conference at the Command.
He explained that the 4,745 bags of rice are equivalent to about 8 trucks with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N85, 504, 000,
Uba listed 68 parcels of Tramadol with DPV of N918, 000, 10 parcels of cannabis sativa handed over to National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, and 180 sacks of scrap metals in a Volvo FL7 truck with DPV of N8, 505, 000 among other items intercepted by the Command.
According to him, five suspects were arrested in connection with the seized items.
Talking about revenue generation, he said, the Command realized about N1.26 billion in two months.
In the same vein, the Command arrested a female suspect identified as Shalewa Oyetunde, (35years) with 5.9kg Cannabis Sativa. She has been convicted for two years in prison.
The CAC also paraded a fake Youth Corp member using a vehicle with Nigerian diplomatic number to cross the border.
