The rice in local boats seized by FOU at waterways:
The Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is giving the dare devil smugglers a tough time, as the Unit through intelligence signal intercepted 815 bags of rice (50kg each), from Isasi at Yana-sasi village, around Okoko-maiko creeks, along Badagry road.
Business Update inquest revealed that the bags of rice were smuggled with local boats through the waterways, when officers from FOU zone ‘A’ tactfully intercepted the items notwithstanding the difficult terrain.
When contacted for comment, the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Unit, Comptroller Mohammed Uba confirmed the seizure. He expressed displeasure about the nefarious activities of smugglers, saying his men are battle-ready for economic saboteurs working against government’s effort in growing local industries.
He disclosed, “FOU Zone ‘A’ has stepped up patrol surveillance at the creeks and waterways within its area of coverage. Infact, the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC, Ali Hameed, has equipped us with necessary logistics and work tools to carry out our statutory duties effectively. Therefore, we will leave no stone unturned in curbing the menace of smuggling within the zone”.
