The Tincan Island Port Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, is in the news again. This time, the Command raked in a huge sum of N104.5billion from January to April, 2018, in the coffers of the Federal Government.
Briefing Journalists at the Command yesterday, the Customs Area Controller ,CAC, of Tincan Command, Comptroller Mohammed Abdullahi Baba Musa, said, that the revenue collection from January to April 2018, amounted to N104.5billion with outstanding performance rate of 90.09percent.
The seized items:
The words of the CAC, “In a comparative analysis of the revenue, it shows that N104.5billion generated from January to April 2018, when compared to N82.1billion realized in the same period the previous year (2017), we have revenue increase of N22.6billion, which is equivalent to an improvement of 27.61 percent”.
“The improved revenue collection so far has been driven by the establishment of standard operating procedure ,SOP, and strong revenue drive achieved through blocking areas of revenue leakages”.
He explained further, “Tincan Island Command is committed to the transformation of revenue collection and reporting system following the implementation of NICIS 11, with additional functionality, which is an upgrade of the NICIS 1”.
The CAC explaining the dangers of taking such drugs:
“As part of the specific gains with the implementation, we have the Biometric Access System and introduction of a ‘One Stop Shop’, which will enable speedy treatment of declarations with valuation, classification and other related clearance issues”.
“In the meantime, renovation of the space for the ‘One Stop Shop’ is in progress, as you can see here. Automation of cargo examination and assignment process where Examination Officers are assigned examination automatically is also designed to ensure transparency in the inspection process”.

“Also, the vehicle valuation system is being further improved with the attachment of Valuation Note issued to the SGD in the system, which will enable quick verification of assessment and duty payment. Ultimately, the full automation of the Vehicles Valuation will soon be achieved”.
In the same vein, Tincan Command recorded seizures of 1×40 and 1×20 containers of Tramadol Hydrochloride (225mg), declared as electrical static converters and ciprofloxacin, even as the Command arrested a suspect in connection with the seized pharmaceutical products.
Displaying the seized drugs before the media, the CAC, stressed, “The seized drugs were imported from India. Looking at the packs, you see boldly written for export only, which means the Indians will not allow such drugs to be sold in their country because these drugs can kill”.
We are collaborating with National Agency for Food, Drug, Administration and Control ,NAFDAC and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ,NDLEA, on these seizures. We also intercepted 3×40 containers of E-Waste, which are considered toxic to the environment, and we are collaborating with NESREA on this seizure.”
“Other seizures recorded within this period under review include 5×40 containers of second hand clothing consisting of about 1,239bales, which is prohibited under the absolute import prohibition list, and 1×40 container of used tyres, all amounting to a total Duty Paid Value ,DPV, of N124million. We will continue to work hard in facilitating trade, generating revenue for government and at the same time, checking illicit trade within our area of coverage.”
